20mph Speed Limit – Have your say!
Would you like to see the introduction of a 20 MPH Speed Limit throughout the Village of Ash?
Following speeding concerns raised by residents when consulting on our Highway Improvement Plan, Ash Parish Council are carrying out pre-consultation engagement to gauge support for the introduction of a 20 MPH speed limit throughout the village centre.
A speed limit is a legally enforceable maximum speed for a specific road or stretch of road. It is usually indicated by standard circular signs at the start of the limit and at regular intervals. A 20 mph speed limit relies mainly on signs and road markings. Drivers are expected to comply, and the police can enforce it.
Kent County Council have identified roads in the village of Ash where a 20 MPH speed limit could be suitable as shown on the maps below:
1) Guilton through to Collar Makers, stopping at the junction with Sandwich Road
2) Chequer Lane from The Street to the traffic calming zone Chequer Lane
3) Queens Road from The Street to Chequer Lane
4) Molland Lane, School Lane & Molland Lea
5) New Street, junction of The Street to Saunders Lane

Please note:
Residents are invited to comment on the proposed scheme as a whole.
The roads included have been determined by Kent County Council, and partial adoption of the scheme is not an option. Individual roads cannot be added or removed.
Kent County Council, as the Highways Authority, have advised that the remainder of Sandwich Road would not be suitable for inclusion in this scheme due to the current identified speed of existing traffic.

Ahead of any statutory consultation, which will be carried out by Kent County Council, Ash Parish Council are seeking local opinion and have provided this questionnaire for you to tell us what you think.
The feedback from this pre-consultation engagement will be considered by Ash Parish Council and help inform if and how the scheme proceeds.
Please note: if this scheme is to go ahead Kent County Council will ask Ash Parish Council to meet the costs of approx. £17,000 from our budget.
